As you’re probably aware, our government has recommended self-isolation due to the virus outbreak, but that doesn’t mean we have to isolate our minds.
Here, we have compiled a list of our favourite online safe spaces where children can learn remotely, from interactive games to inspirational books – we’ve got you covered!
E.A.K. is a revolutionary, online game that provides kids aged 8-14 with knowledge of both computational thinking and professional coding languages, to effectively prepare them for 21st Century degrees and careers.
2. CodeCademy
CodeCademy has a full catalogue of resources for you to learn to code, stick at it and this will provide you with the knowledge to start your career in tech.
3. FutureLearn (a personal InnovateHer favorite!)
Futurelearn has a huge variety of courses, from Machine Learning to Climate Change to Entrepreneurship. There’s something for everyone 💜🌎
4. iDEA
Earn points and collect badges (Including an InnovateHer one). All free and super easy to use, perfect for younger children 🖥
5. Unity
Want to make games? 🎮
Unity are giving free access to their premium platform which has a large number of courses and tutorials in coding, VR & more.
6. Bafta Games
Want more gaming resources? Our resource partner Bafta Games have online resources to enable 10-18 yr olds to start making games for themselves.
7. GirlsWhoCode ‘Learn to Code and Change the World’
Want some inspiration before taking it online? We 💜 the Girls Who Code book.
8. Stemettes
Our friends Stemettes are inviting you to be on lockdown with them with events online for the next few weeks, keep your eyes peeled 👀
You’ll learn to code by completing coding challenges and building projects. You’ll also earn verified certifications along the way.
10. Code Combat
CodeCombat to gives learners the feeling of wizardly power at their fingertips by using typed code.
11. Hour Of Code
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science.
12. Tynker
Tynker fuels creativity in thousands of schools and powers the imagination of 60 million kids worldwide.
With 40+ award-winning block & text-based courses and over 3,700 learning modules, there’s a learning path for every kid no matter their age or level.
Manchester City Council has updated its library access to include a huge collection of e-books, e-audio, e-magazines and e-newspapers.
14. Audible
“For as long as schools are closed, we’re open” Audible has just made 100s of audiobooks available for free! ‘Titles are divided into sections including Elementary, Teen, Tween & Literary Classics’.
14. NSPCC
Schools are understandably worried about keeping children safe while teaching in an unusual setting and we’re being asked a lot about remote teaching and online learning. So we’ve pulled together some resources to help. Other teachers and tutors who don’t normally work in schools should also find these resources useful.
