Here at InnovateHer, we love International Women’s Day (IWD). It’s a day that we’re so excited to celebrate. A day that drives our message of equality and highlights the change that still needs to be made in society!
To celebrate International Women’s Day 2024, we’re running a mini-virtual conference for students aged 13-17 on Wednesday, March 6th.
The theme for IWD 2024 is economic empowerment, a topic that highlights the importance of investing in women in terms of opportunities and the economy. InnovateHer’s International Women’s Day celebration provides a key focus on this throughout the 3 different events:
1. An Inspiring Assembly at 08:40-09:00 AM
2. An interactive class on ‘How to create an idea for a business!’ and launch our International Women’s Day competition! This interactive workshop will start at 11:00 and finish at 11:45 AM.
3. A ‘How I Got Here’ panel from inspiring women in tech. Women who have worked their way up and overcome barriers to achieve their success. It begins at 13:00 and finishes at 13:40 PM.
Not only will our event inspire, empower and encourage students to reach their full potential, but it will provide so much more…
Our ‘How I Got Here’ panel will introduce students to inspiring role models in the tech sector. Role models will speak about their roles and their journey in the industry.
Our International Women’s Day Inspiring Assembly will also feature real-life role models who will be highlighting why money matters and what young people who don’t have much money can do to invest what they have to build a strong future.
Our 11 AM workshop will be an interactive class to get students’ creative juices flowing. In the workshop, students will learn how to and have the opportunity to create an idea for a business. This also connects to our exciting International Women’s Day competition, which we will launch during the event, with fantastic prizes for students.
We have actively worked to ensure our International Women’s Day events have the utmost flexibility for you and your students. This is why all 3 are virtual and throughout the day, so you can attend at least one. Each event is standalone, so you don’t need to worry about missing one to attend the other.
You can either take your pick or join all 3!
THE theme of International Women’s Day 2024.
Each event will give students insight into economic empowerment- what it is, why it’s important, and how investing in women can and will change the world for the better!
Providing students with an understanding of economic empowerment does 2 things:
1. It allows female students to see their value in the world and how important it is to fight for what they deserve, which is true equality. It’s on all of us to change the world for the better!
2. Spreads the message of equality to everyone so all who attend our IWD event can grasp how vital allyship is in making a change.
Your students will be introduced to senior leaders who have had atypical journeys into tech in our ‘How I Got Here’ panel. The speakers will discuss their challenges to get where they are, sharing inspiring stories from how they started their journey to where they are now and telling students that anything is possible no matter what!
It is vitally important that students are introduced to various career pathways that aren’t just university routes, such as apprenticeships, internships, or building your way up to a career through various jobs. In 2024, there are many ways students can build their careers, and we want to shout about that during our International Women’s Day event.
It’s pivotal to us that our events are as accessible as possible, which is why we make our events free for schools. AND we also want to make clear that all students no matter their gender are welcome to attend, as the event will inspire but also stress how important everyone is in building a better future!
