3 Reasons YOU Should Join the InnovateHer Advisory Board

My name’s Dr. Ronda Zelezny-Green, and I have served as a member of the board for InnovateHer, as well as the Chair of the Board.

Dr. Ronda Zelezny-Green

I can still remember first seeing the ad for board members, probably on LinkedIn, and being transported to an inviting neon purple, pink, and blue world that is at the forefront of getting the tech industry ready for girls and non-binary individuals and girls and non-binary individuals ready for the tech industry. Little did I know that in taking up this opportunity, I would be changed and challenged so much for the better, even though I initially thought my remit of contributing tech, capacity building, and gender expertise was all the job would entail! I am grateful for how wrong I was. 😊

Below, I will share three reasons why YOU should bring your talent in PR, Legal, and/or Human Resources to come collaborate with our cracking team of skilled board members!

You can apply here: https://bit.ly/3Z5ihy1.

Reason 1

In 2020, the Coronavirus pandemic threatened InnovateHer’s initial operational model of face-to-face delivery. Undeterred, the organization’s co-founders, Chelsea Slater and Joanne Morfee, reinvented the business to bring learning online for young people and to help ensure no student was left behind.

Thanks to this work, over 400 young people continued to access online programmes during the pandemic, unarguably providing a boost to mental health for young people during a difficult period.

Several other examples abound of InnovateHer’s resilience, inclusion, and championing girls and non-binary individuals in its work, and their mission are what keep me, and my other board members, committed to the shared cause.

Reason 2

Also worth mentioning is that throughout its work, the InnovateHer staff and board members alike have wholeheartedly implemented an intersectional approach to how they serve people and reach communities that have been minoritized within the UK. This includes having a board geographically distributed across the UK and Europe as well as being comprised of a diverse group of individuals of varying gender identities, ethnicities, and national origins.

Above and beyond this, collaborations with other important UK social impact organisations, including the Black Curriculum, Chayn, and the Princes Trust, have helped embed anti-racist and feminist lenses in InnovateHer programmatic offerings. Though the vast majority of InnovateHer’s work is in the North of the UK, partnerships and people on the board help take the organisation’s impact far beyond those borders.

Reason 3

Serving on the InnovateHer board is quite possibly the most fun you’ll have while truly making a difference for young people right up and down the UK. Our board meetings occur quarterly and begin with unique questions to spark genuine conversations that build connections between busy professionals. Though we have yet to meet in person all together (coming soon!), you would not know it based on the camaraderie exhibited and ease of exchanges that occur. I have personally taken pride in working with Chelsea to ensure that our meetings respect the invaluable, limited time that our board gives as stewards to an organisation I believe is revolutionising how remote work in the social impact and tech sector can accelerate sustained positive change.

So, what are you waiting for?

I welcome you to apply today if you have the skills we need to take the InnovateHer board to the next level. The next two years are gonna be litty!!!

Applications close at 11.59pm on the 13th of March, 2023
