Liverpool Girl Geeks Director Joins DfE’s New T-Level Panel

Written by: Chelsea on October 1, 2017

Director of Liverpool Girl Geeks, Jo Morfee, has been appointed to the Department for Education’s (DfE) new Digital T Level Panel.

Justine Greening, the Secretary of State for Education, announced the T level panels on 11th October 2017, as part of a package of flagship reforms designed to ensure that young people and adults benefit from a high quality technical education system that meets the expectations of modern employers.

Jo will be part of a panel of experienced industry professionals that will help shape a new system of technical education in England.

The aim of the panel is to develop education in the digital sector, providing government and the Institute for Apprenticeships with advice on T level content to genuinely prepare individuals for skilled employment.

The appointment will see Jo attend regular monthly panel meetings, working with the Chair and other panel members to steer the knowledge, skills and behaviours required in the digital sector, including the content of classroom-based qualifications and broader requirements.
Discussing the appointment, Jo said:

“I am honoured to be serving on the Department for Education’s Data and Digital Business Services T level panel, alongside representatives from many of Britain’s leading digital and technology employers.
There is a digital skills gap here in the UK with many roles remaining unfilled each year as a consequence. The panel presents an opportunity to address that gap through strategic educational reforms. I am looking forward to contributing to the development of a new technical education system which will benefit both young people and employers going forward.”
