Data Engineer

Manchester City Centre (Hybrid)

We’re looking for a data engineer to join us in Manchester to help deliver tested and sustainable data solutions across Co-op. The role comes with an attractive salary and benefits package.

In this role, you’ll design, build and test basic data solutions, and support the team to maintain those that have already been implemented.

To give you an idea of how this data engineer role will look and feel, here are some of the things you can expect to do:

  • use Azure DevOps to deliver work items and make use of code repositories including reviewing pull requests and overseeing deployments
  • implement effective solutions to complex data problems and make recommendations for future improvements
  • contribute to team events and play an active role in our Communities of Practice sessions

To apply for this data engineer role, you’ll need a good knowledge of SQL and the ability to use Python for data engineering purposes. You’ll also need:

  • familiarity with common mark-up and data storage formats (e.g. YAML, JSON, XML, CSV and Parquet)
  • experience using Databricks, code repositories and deployment pipelines, and a familiarity of data lakehouses
  • a basic understanding of data concepts (e.g. structured, semi-structured, unstructured, batch vs streams, and normalisation)
  • although not essential, experience or knowledge of the consumer insurance industry would be useful

Here you’ll do work that matters. We can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services), the Wagestream app – giving you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it, and the YuLife app – rewarding you for exercising with discounts and vouchers for your favourite brands. You’ll also get:

  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • a pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • coaching and training to support your career development
