What you will be doing
During the Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship you will undertake a range of engineering activities that will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in order to meet the apprenticeship standard and that of the role of an Engineering Operative. During your apprenticeship you will gain valuable experience working on maritime vessels, which will culminate in you completing an End Point Assessment.

Specific activities could include:
The Engineering Operative Apprenticeship has a typical duration of 18 Months, the first 9 months of which will be spent in our fully accredited training centre located in the Naval Base. During your foundation engineering training you will complete two level 2 engineering qualifications that will equip you with the basic skills and knowledge to undertake the role of an Engineering Operative. Following the successful completion of these qualifications you will join one of the many projects within our busy warship support business where you will continue to learn alongside an experienced engineering team. The Engineering Operative role covers a wide range of common and job specific skills sets that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry sector. Engineering Operatives will undertake activities across both mechanical and electrical specialisations in support of the wider engineering projects which are being undertaken on Royal Navy platforms based at Portsmouth Naval Base.
You will be expected to work both individually and as part of a team, understand and comply with organisational and statutory safety requirements and work with minimum supervision.
Engineering operatives will work with associated trades such as Electrical and Mechanical fitters and will develop a strong understanding of the marine industry.

What Qualification will you get?
By the end of the apprenticeship you will obtain:
•    Level 2 Diploma in engineering operations (skills)
•    Level 2 Certificate in engineering operations (knowledge)
•    Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English (If not previously achieved)
•    There is a potential opportunity with the company discretion to progress to a recognised level 3 NVQ in Electrical or Mechanical

Currently undergoing a major upgrade programme, Spearfish will soon benefit from further sophisticated advances in its homing, warheads, tactical and fuelling systems, as well an upgraded guidance link. Then there’s Artisan, the 3D radar that can identify a target the size of a tennis ball, travelling at a speed of more than 2000 miles an hour more than 25 kilometres away!
