Experienced trainers and facilitators – we need you! (Paid roles)

At InnovateHer we work with a wide range of role models to facilitate our educational programmes in schools, and inspire the girls we work with to consider careers in technology. This helps us to deliver on part of our mission; ‘getting girls ready for industry’ and also aligns with our core values of collaboration, passion and integrity.

We are currently seeking trained facilitators, or those with experience in delivering workshops to small groups of around 20 people. This is a paid freelance role at a flat fee of £600, and we can offer you numerous opportunities during term times. 

You might have a background in Learning and Development, delivering training, or even teaching. Or have a qualification in facilitation and / or coaching. You may have worked with young people before, or with groups of adults. If you have experience in any of these areas, we’d love to hear from you. 

Subject matter knowledge of the tech / digital sector is not required as we can pair you up with mentors from industry who have not delivered any workshops or sessions before. We send two mentors into every school, so ideally we would have a blend of those experienced in facilitation, and those with industry knowledge. If you have both of those things we definitely want you to join us! 

We are open to anybody from the community approaching us to offer their time, from a range of different backgrounds. We welcome male and female facilitators alike. If you’re a experienced facilitator, here’s a broad outline of what we need from you:

  • Facilitate and lead the delivery of our tech education workshops during term time on a school site and any other sites that InnovateHer may be delivering from. This is usually for 2 hours per week over 8 weeks, but can take a 3 consecutive day format.
  • Ensure all InnovateHer sessions are delivered to a high standard and adapt the session to fit the learning styles and individual needs of pupils, if necessary. We provide all the content and resources but spontaneous adaption may be required, depending on the groups needs.
  • Work with the supporting mentor to divide up activities and content each week, ensure that you are prepared for each session together and collaborate to deliver the content.
  • Be a positive role model for the girls we work with and always speak positively about opportunities in the industry.
  • Be the main point of contact for teachers and pupils when on site and assist with building and maintaining relationships with all our key stakeholders.
  • Communicate regularly with the InnovateHer team to feedback on each session.
  • Support with the evaluation of each programme in collaboration with InnovateHer team.
  • Positively promote InnovateHer’s mission and its core aims and objectives with existing and new contacts.
  • Ensure all legal requirements are adhered to, including Health and Safety, Risk Assessments, Child Protection / safeguarding.

Any other daily duties which are relevant to the role.

Core skills and experience:

  • Experience of facilitating workshops to secondary age pupils or adult groups.
  • Previous experience working with children isn’t essential, but advantageous.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and resources carefully and to keep to time in the classroom.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with young people. 
  • Ability to adapt content and resources to suit the group you are working with and their pace of learning / learning styles. 
  • Understanding of or an interest in Digital Technology and / or STEM subjects (e.g. UX, coding, gaming are desirable areas, but not essential as you will be supported by industry experts). 

Interpersonal skills

  • Outgoing and enthusiastic persona, someone who is able to inspire, engage and encourage others.
  • Confidence (or the ability to portray it – we all get imposter syndrome!)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain concepts in a simple way, without use of jargon.
  • Able to improvise, problem solve and adapt when things don’t go to plan.
  • Team player – the lead facilitator and support mentor must support one another and work together.
  • Organised and self-disciplined. You will need to read through and prepare each session prior to attending.


  • Own transport is ideal, but not essential as most of our school work is accessible by public transport.
  • You must be on board with our values.
  • Flexibility in your work, so that you can leave early in the afternoons for 8 weeks in total and attend one training session (normally held over a few hours in the evening). Or can deliver for 3 consecutive days on site, if needed.
