Co-op Digital is after an onsite engineer to help Co-op Digital build their Web platform in Manchester City Centre.

The job

Co-op Digital is building a Web platform to help create a seamless online experience for Co-op customers with a safe, secure and easy to use backend.

They start with user needs, they work in an agile way and they’re open and transparent. If you share these values they might be a good fit for each other.

The role involves a lot of collaboration, at a rapid pace, with colleagues all around the business, in Federation House and Angel Square in Manchester. For this reason they aren’t able to support remote working.

They understand that it’s what you do, not when you do it that’s important so they’ll always try to be flexible with other commitments you might have.

About you

  • you love agile / XP engineering practices like TDD, pair programming and continuous deployment
  • you want to work with a Python backend
  • you enjoy mentoring others and levelling their skills up
  • you have worked within lean/agile teams to create quick feedback loops and focus on the customer
  • you have a flexible attitude to tech and a solid understanding of how the web works
  • you can quickly adapt to and learn new technologies
  • you are a natural collaborator with a passion for continuous improvement
  • you’re committed to putting users at the heart of the development process (they regularly run user research sessions with all the team getting involved)

What you’ll do

  • Deliver new features to the Web Platform engine
  • Work closely with their platform engineers to create the required cloud infrastructure
  • Be responsible for high quality, simple code that can be worked on by others
  • Improving and maintaining the existing codebase
  • Mentor and train Co-op colleagues
  • Continuously improving processes with the team to reduce feedback loops with a focus on delivering value to colleagues
  • Attending, and contributing to, regular Community of Practice events
